Pear Tree Home Learning - 19.4.20

Hello Pear Tree Class

I hope you have all had a lovely Easter break and ate some yummy chocolate! We have had some nice sunny days so I hope you have all been able to get outside for some fresh air and exercise.

This week we would be back to school after the Easter holiday and so its a good time to get back to our home learning routine. I know this is hard at home and that you will all be missing your friends but try your hardest to get some learning done each day. Please remember to be good for your grownups and do the work they ask you to do, just like you would in school.

The work that I have given you this week should be fun and easy to do at home.  Please do keep up with the important skills that we try to practise most days; counting forwards and backwards within 100, bonds to 10 and 20, counting in 2’s, 5’s and 10’s, addition and subtraction, odd and even numbers and of course your phonics, reading and spelling.

You have all worked so hard this year and I know if you keep practising, you will be able to remember the things we have learnt.

I am missing all your happy, smiling faces and I am super proud of you all.

Keep safe and happy.

Mrs Connolly

Dear Parents and Carers,

I hope you are all well and are managing to stay safe, happy and positive in these very difficult times. I know that many of you are still working from home and trying to juggle home learning with the children too so please just do what you can.

I wouldn't expect children to be working a normal school day, take each day as it comes, we can only do our best. The work set is to guide you but if the sun is shining and the children want to write about the garden or make up a story about animals then let them do that. As long as they are keeping up with writing, reading and maths that’s what is important, not how they do it.

If possible, it will be helpful to keep the children in a learning routine each day. I have created a learning schedule for this week (attached here and again below) and the work is all practical, non screen based and can be done in a fun way. It splits the day into subjects and each activity for Maths and English has a Learning Objective (LO) like we would have for each day in school and ideas for practising key skills.

Our topic for this term is all about Africa and so the activities for the afternoons are based on this topic. There are some learning activities for the week but it would be lovely for the children to choose a mini topic within the Africa theme to research. They can pick anything they like that has some connection with Africa.  They can work on this over the next few weeks and organise what they find out in any way that they like.

Please make sure that the children keep up with their reading, this is key in Year 1. The websites given previously have access to lots of books and some that allow you to select the correct colour band. This term and last, we would have been regularly checking the children's reading levels, so please feel free to move up colours if you feel your child is ready.

I hope that this work helps to keep your children busy and learning. I would like to stress again not to worry too much, we are all doing our best.

Thinking of you all and your families.

Mrs Connolly
