Hello! It has been another great week here in Nursery.
In Mathematics, the children have been focusing on subitising numbers 4 and 5, developing their ability to recognise small quantities without counting (using their speedy eyes). In Phonics, we have been concentrating on blending consonant vowel consonant words ; the children are becoming increasingly confident at putting sounds together to read simple words. Our theme of the week was Pirates. The children have loved immersing themselves in pirate themed activities, which included searching for hidden treasure, building pirate ships and engaging in imaginative role play as captains.
Next week, we will be beginning our new focus text, The Rainbow Fish. In Mathematics , the children will be using five frames and in PSE , they will be focusing on finding solutions to conflicts.

Hello everyone, It has been a lovely first week back in Nursery!
Sports Day on Wednesday was a great success despite the weather. All of the children participated enthusiastically, and their behaviour throughout the event was impeccable. We were incredibly proud of them all.
In Mathematics, the children revisited the key vocabulary of "more than" and "less than". They have been comparing quantities using a range of manipulatives and have also been exploring the concepts of "same" and "equal". In Phonics, we have been focusing on recognising initial sounds in words, clapping beats/syllables, and blending sounds together to make words. Our main theme this week was Summer and healthy eating. The children thoroughly enjoyed making refreshing lemonade and decorating rice cakes with a variety of fruits, including blueberries, bananas, and grapes. We discussed the importance of eating healthily and achieving our five a day through a balanced diet. The children have also been working incredibly hard on their name writing this week and have demonstrated great perseverance as they continue to build their confidence.
Next week , the children will be continuing with 'what does my body need' in PSE , subitising 4 and 5 in Mathematics and focusing on pitch and melody in Music.

Hello!
A fantastic final week of term was definitely had! The children enjoyed revisiting the important topic of recycling and demonstrated some fantastic knowledge and understanding about why it is so important to keep our planet happy and safe. They shared lots of thoughtful ideas about how we can all help to care for the environment. The children also sorted a variety of different materials and explored the differences between them, including plastic, paper, and metal. As part of our learning, the children also took part in an investigation to discover whether different materials would sink or float. They made predictions, tested their ideas, and enjoyed talking about their findings with their friends.
In Mathematics, the children have been busy matching, sorting, and comparing objects. We explored the different ways blocks can be sorted, such as by shape, colour, and size. The children have also been practising their fine motor skills by using tweezers, which they particularly enjoyed when rescuing the dinosaurs by picking out the “rubbish” (see pictures above).
The children have also loved engaging in shopping role play activities while becoming familiar with new vocabulary such as till, receipt, customer, shop assistant, and purchase.
Everyone enjoyed our lovely teddy bear's picnic today ; we had smiles all round and they enjoyed chatting with their friends and teachers.
After half term, our learning will focus on Summer, exploring “What does my body need?” in PSE, as well as continuing to develop our name writing skills.

Hello all!
This week in Nursery, the children have thoroughly enjoyed learning our “lost word of the week”, Bluebell. We explored the bluebells growing in our outdoor provision and spent time observing their features. The children were able to describe how they resemble little bells hanging from the stem. To further support our learning, we shared stories and texts linked to bluebells, including The Bunny of Bluebell Hill, which the children listened to with great interest.

Hello !
Another great week here in Nursery. The children have been producing some fabulous artwork , especially flower art work using different techniques such as stamping, printing and using loose parts. They have also been learning to draw with increasing complexity by adding stems , leaves and petals as well as drawing different types of flowers.
In Phonics , the children have been learning about their local area. We have been listening to the sounds in our outdoor provision and around school as well as emphasising sounds that begin with the same word. In Maths , we have been continuing with showing five ; the children have been matching numerals to quantities and counting up to five objects with one to one correspondence , which is a tricker topic but all children have been great at it.
In PSE , the children have been learning about how to keep germs away and handwashing. They have learnt a new song this week called 'wash your hands' to the tune of Frere Jacques to remind themselves how to clean hands.
Next week , the children will be learning the lost word 'bluebell' , continuing on AB patterns in Maths and focusing on special feelings in PSE.

Hi all!
A fantastic first week back was definitely had. Another huge welcome to our new April starters who have settled in amazingly. This week , the children have been doing lots of work around our new lost word of the week - 'Dandelion'. The children learnt briefly about the life cycle of a dandelion which included seed dispersal and how the yellow petals overtime form into the white parachuted seed head. In Phonics this week , we have been looking at the different people within our school such as teachers , lunchtime staff , caretakers etc and getting familiarised with the words. In Maths, we have been singing various songs such as Five Little Peas, Five Little Ducks and Five Currant Buns to strengthen the children's knowledge on counting, which they all did very well!
In PSE, our focus has been healthy eating and cleaning teeth. We learnt about what a healthy food / unhealthy food is - the children were very good at telling why we shouldn't be having too many treats as 'too much sugar can make our teeth yellow'. We have also been reading books such as The Very Hungry Caterpillar' to reinforce ideas of healthy eating.
Next week , the children will be building on showing five in Maths , continuing with School and local area in Phonics and focusing on throwing and catching in physical development.

Hello!
We’ve had another wonderful and busy week in Nursery :)
In Phonics, the children enjoyed exploring the story of Jack and the Beanstalk. They had fun bringing the story to life by creating their own imaginative sound effects such as “whoosh,” “chop,” and “bang” while retelling different parts. It was lovely to see their creativity as they engaged with the story.
In Maths, we have been revisiting shape, space, and measure. The children have been working hard to identify the similarities and differences between shapes. Although this can be a trickier topic, the children approached it with immense enthusiasm which was great to see!
We also embraced the Easter spirit with various activities such as decorating bunny masks, making Easter cards and egg counting. We had a surprise visit from the real Easter Bunny, which brought lots of excitement and smiles!
Next term, the children will be focusing on healthy eating and looking after ourselves in PSE. In Maths , they will be showing 5 (Sing rhymes to 5 and join in with movements and moving props to 5). Our new lost word we will be focusing on is 'Dandelion' and we will be linking this to Understanding the world by looking at the life cycle of a dandelion.

Hello!
We have had another lovely week in Nursery; it's crazy how fast this half term has flown!
During this week, all children have had a go at planting their own cress seeds, as we are focusing on seasons in PSE. The children's enthusiasm during the activity was amazing to see! We also spoke about what seeds need in order to grow successfully, such as plenty of sunshine and watering regularly.
The children have also been revisiting subitising this week, developing their ability to recognise small quantities (1-3) without counting and using 'speedy eyes'. In Phonics , the focus was safari animals. All children enjoyed mimicking different safari animals alongside learning fun facts. We have been linking our focus of safari animals to expressive arts and design. The children have also been learning about camouflage and how predators blend in with their surroundings before attacking their prey. The artwork produced was fantastic!
Next week , the children will be doing Jack and the Beanstalk in Phonics , learning about Easter/ beginning to make sense of their own life story and revisiting shape , space and measure.

Hi all!
What a busy week we have had in Nursery! The children absolutely loved going on our nature walk around the school grounds , ticking off signs of Spring on their checklists. We spoke about buds being formed , hearing / seeing bees and butterflies as well as birds chirping and the life cycle of plants.
In phonics this week , we looked at jungle animals and the sounds they make. This also tied in nicely to our Maths , where we did repeating pattern activities of different animal patterns as well as movement patterns , where children enjoyed doing Squiggle. In Literacy , the children have been doing opposites. Linking this to our jungle animals topic, we spoke about tall / short animals , big /small animals and heavy /light animals. It has been great to have some sunshine this week; fingers crossed this will continue! All children have liked spending most of our provision time outdoors.
Next week, we will be focusing on wild/ safari animals, looking at the vocabulary words 'many' and 'fewer' and different materials / textures. In Maths next week , the children will be representing sounds and revisiting subitising.

Hello!
All children have had a fantastic week in Nursery ; They have thoroughly enjoyed revisiting shapes in Maths as well as routes and positions. Although we have been revisiting more trickier topics, all children were amazing at noticing how many edges and corners the different shapes have. In phonics , we spoke about the different sounds we hear in our houses as well as re enacting them. Many children spoke about how their daddies snore so loud that they can't go to sleep!
Our 'lost word' focus of the week was 'Otter'. In outdoor provision, the children created various otter obstacle courses as well as otter habitats using natural materials and loose parts. As the weather has been slightly improving , it has been nice to get our spring toys out and the children are looking very forward to walk down to the school fields next week to have a picnic where they will have their snack and milk.
Next week , the children will be focusing on jungle animals in phonics, making patterns in Maths and learning all about the lovely season of Spring in PSE.

Hello all!
This week in Nursery, the children have been continuing on the vets/pets topic. We have been completing many fun activities such as bandaging toy animals, role playing in our vet clinic and matching animal patterns. We also had a very lovely visit from Harold the Giraffe on Monday and Tuesday. The PSE workshop focused on keeping our bodies clean and making sure we brush our teeth and shower / take a bath. The session also covered feelings. All children were big fans of Harold! Thank you for sending such lovely baby photos of the children; They really enjoyed sharing them with their friends. We spoke about all the changes that have happened since being born such as our hair growing , being able to eat independently and getting dressed ourselves. Our lost word for the week was 'Hare'. We read many books such as The Hare and The Tortoise , Hare's new dress and The Hare and The Hedgehog. All children looked fabulous in their amazing costumes for World Book Day - we had a lot of fun talking about our characters and reading our favourite books.
Next week, the children will be doing families in Phonics and focusing on the lost word 'Otter'. In Maths, they will be doing shape , space and measure.

A fantastic start to Spring 2!
Hello!
The children have had a great first week back. We have had lots of fun learning about pets and how to care for them if they get poorly. This has been linked to 'Understanding the world' objective by the children understanding the need to respect and care for the natural environment and all living things.
The children have also learnt about the different habitats of animals and we have had a lot of fun mimicking the different animal sounds in our Phonics sessions this week , as well as singing animal nursery rhymes and introducing lost words from the dictionary. This week , we have been focusing on the word 'Adder'. The vocabulary words 'long' and 'short' were the primary focus from the book we read, 'Adder Up A Ladder'.
In Maths, the children have been comparing and sorting collections. Our key vocab words were 'equal to' , 'same' , 'more' and 'fewer than'. We have been reading various books such as 'Handa's surprise' and 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. The main focus for our Maths sessions was to begin to make collections of small objects the same.
Next week , the children will be introduced to the lost word 'Hare' as well as books such as 'The Hare and The Hedgehog' and 'Hare's New Dress'. In Maths, we will be doing 'Lead on own repeats'.
Just a gentle reminder that it is World Book Day Next Thursday (5th March). The children can come dressed as their favourite book character.

Hello!
The children have had a lovely week , reading the Three Little Pigs and doing role play and craft activities around the book. All children absolutely loved doing the actions 'huffing' and 'puffing' and blowing the different houses away. We also did a few practical activities relating to what a strong / weak material is and why brick was the strongest material in the book. In Maths , we have been focusing on representing numbers with marks, taking one and adding one and becoming more confident on counting skills, using objects. In PSE , we have been talking about how to keep safe outside on the road and to always stop , look and listen for cars especially.
Next week , we will be reading the 'Gingerbread Man' and completing phonics around the book and exploring instruments. In Maths , the children will be learning about shapes , space and measure and will be introduced to key vocabulary words 'pull' and 'push'.

We have had a very exciting week in Nursery; the children have loved reading our story of the week , Little Red Riding Hood. We have been doing lots of fun role play around the book and singing fun songs in Phonics. We have also been very busy making tracks using blocks/ crates and applying this to our story of the week , thinking about how Little Red Riding Hood has travelled to grandma's house using directions. The children have been continuing to learn about winter and had a lovely time painting ice cubes as we spoke about why they melt and how they freeze.
Next week, we will be reading The Three Little Pigs , building the houses from the story with different materials and representing numbers using marks in Maths.

A wonderful start to the new year
A belated happy new year to you all!
It has been an absolute pleasure teaching Nursery this week, especially welcoming our new starters who have settled in so well. It was also a pleasure meeting all the lovely parents; thank you so much for making me feel welcome!
We have begun our exciting new half-term topic of Winter and it has been a very busy, creative week. The children have taken part in a variety of winter themed activities, from exploring a Winter Wonderland tuff tray to creating snowy day pictures and counting up to 10 using snowmen and Arctic animals. In phonics, the children enjoyed singing Arctic themed nursery rhymes and clapping to the syllables. It has been wonderful to see their enthusiasm and engagement throughout the week.
Next week, we will be looking at melting and freezing ice cubes , reading Goldilocks and The Three Bears / doing some activities based on the book and subitising in maths using a dice.
