Another excellent week in Lime Tree Class comes to an end!

The children have worked so hard this week, finding halves and quarters (and thirds in Year 2). I am looking forward to seeing the creative and practical activity that I have set for homework this week!

We have also come to the end of our class story 'Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain'. We have enjoyed the story and the discussions about stories from different cultures.

I can see the excellent effort that most of our pupils are putting in with their reading and I have challenged pupils in our class to try and read their reading books at least 3 times a week. It would be great if they could do this every week until the end of term to help us reach our class target!

Have a great 3 day weekend everyone!

We have had an excellent first week back in school after the Easter break. Lime Tree class have enjoyed the best of the weather outside for PE this week where we have been looking at throwing and catching.

We have started a new Maths unit on fractions in both year groups this week, where we have been learning how to find and show half of objects, shapes and numbers.

We are looking forward to continuing next week with fractions and with our new class story 'Bringing the Rain to Kapiti Plain'

I have been pleased to see most of our pupils keeping up with their reading at home. This really shows in the children's fluency and comprehension and it is so important we keep up with reading on 3 separate occasions in the week.

Have a great weekend and a well deserved break everyone!

After an activity packed final week we have made it to the Easter Holidays!

I am so impressed with the learning attitudes over the last 4 weeks. All our pupils have been eager to learn and shown excellent enthusiasm for our topic since half term.

This week we have had the opportunity to sing, dance and play percussion instruments through a variety of challenges in the 'Little Sing' event on Monday and Tuesday. The children enjoyed experimenting with some very different instruments and I definitely think we have some future musicians in Lime Tree Class!

We also made some lovely Easter cards in lessons this week. It was great to see so many unique ideas for cards, and the children working independently to make them.

After a strange half term, I think all pupils have earned this break over Easter. I hope the weather is kind and you manage to get outdoors over the next couple of weeks! I am looking forward to hitting the ground running when we come back with our exciting new topic 'Message in a bottle'.

If you would like some activities to do over Easter it might be nice to get involved with the Art Exhibition we have signed up to as a school. The details are below:

At Rufford Park we have signed up to a very exciting online art exhibition this year called the Young Artists’ Summer Show which is run by the Royal Academy of Arts. We would like as many of you as possible to get involved and submit your work!

The Young Artists' Summer Show love seeing your personality, imagination, thoughts and feelings shine through your artwork. They believe art is about expressing yourself in a way that comes naturally to you. There are no rules, your submission can be created using any art materials you like. You could paint, sketch or even sculpt!

If you're thinking about creating something for the exhibition but aren't sure how to get started, why not set aside some time this half-term to get your creative juices flowing? All great art starts somewhere! For more information about the exhibition and ideas about how to get started please visit https://www.ruffordparkprimary.org.uk/information/curriculum/art-dt/royal-academy-of-arts-young-artists-summer-show

Submissions are open until 26 April 2021.

Enjoy the break and Happy Easter!

Lime Tree Class have enjoyed looking at an alternative version of The Three Little Pigs story this week and it has lead to some fantastic work in our English lessons. Even though we are nearly at the end of this half term, pupils in Lime Tree haven't let up and their effort and enthusiasm for The Three Little Wolves and the Big Bad Pig has been excellent!

Both Year 1 and 2 pupils have got to grips with arithmetic methods this week involved all four functions (Year 2) and addition and subtraction (Year 1). It has been great to see pupils using the methods taught in class to help them with some quite tricky number sentences and word problems!

We are looking forward to doing some more work with the story and some Easter activities next week! Remember that Thursday is our 'Wear what makes you happy' day so the children will not need to come in school uniform on that day.

Have a lovely weekend!

Hello Lime Tree Class

We have had another fantastic week back in school! All pupils have settled back in extremely well and I have been very pleased with effort put in to our independent work this week. We have continued our 'Three Little Pigs' work. We have enjoyed pretending to be the wolf, and writing letters of apology to the pigs.

In Maths we have worked on Multiplication and Division. This has been different in both year groups but all pupils have worked exceptionally hard on their own work! It would be great if Year 1 could keep practising their 2's, 5's and 10's and Year 2 could be practising this as well as their 3's!

We all enjoyed getting involved in School Games week. We chose to do the Leeds Rhinos Dance activity and we managed to achieve both the Bronze and Silver medals! It was a great event throughout school and it really helped our pupils re-engage in PE.

Have a restful weekend and I look forward to seeing you all next week!

Mr Spence
