Weekly Update-3/7/26

Hello everyone,
This week, in reading we have continued reading the next two chapters of our Jeremy Strong book, which the children are really enjoying. We have then focused on using summarising, retrieval and inference skills across a range of reading tasks relating to those two chapters.
In maths, we have moved onto our unit of work on position and direction. The children have been learning to describe position by using coordinates, plotting coordinates on a grid, drawing 2d shapes on a grid using coordinates and translating on a grid. The progress that the children have made with this smaller unit of work is amazing and it’s been great to use some assessment questions which the children got wrong (as this unit had not been taught yet at the time of the assessments) and get the children to use what they have learnt to now answer the questions again and achieve the marks successfully.
In writing, we have focused on researching facts about Tutankhamun’s burial chamber, creating captions for images and then the children have started to write their introductions to their articles along with having bold and catchy headlines.
In art, the children have continued to work on their Egyptian death masks which are looking fantastic so far.
Take care,
Mr Kyriacou
