Weekly Update-12/6/26

Posted: Jun 12, 2026 by: Mr Kyriacou (n.kyriacou) on: Beech Tree Blog

Hello everyone,

This week, the children have been on two school trips away. One was to the Leeds Skipping Final and one was for the Mini Olympics. The children gave it their absolute best shot in the skipping final across a range of different skipping skills and enjoyed every minute of it. The children came away with a few awards, however, we were not able to win it this time around. Regardless of this, the children still had a great time. For the Mini Olympics, the children took part in a range of sports e.g javelin and shotput and really enjoyed the experience of trying out new sports that they had never done before. The children did extremely well and came away with a range of different awards. Well done, everyone!

When we haven’t been out, we have continued reading our class novel and focusing on a range of reading skills based on the next two chapters that we have read. We have also been reading our story time book alongside this. The children are really enjoying both books and are always keen to read more.

In maths, we have moved onto our new unit on shape. We have been focusing on identifying a range of different angles, comparing and ordering angles and focusing on triangles, the properties of triangles and the different types of triangles and how to identify them. The children have been working really hard on this unit so far.

In writing, the children have just completed their draft fact file pieces on canopic jars. They have worked incredibly hard on these and will now need to revise and edit these pieces to improve the quality further.

Take care,

Mr Kyriacou
