Hello Cedar Class families,
What a fantastic week we have had in Cedar Class! Both year groups thoroughly enjoyed their visit to Murton Park. It was an exciting, valuable and immersive experience, bringing our Romans topic to life and creating lots of wonderful memories. Please keep an eye out for a photo gallery from the trip, which will be shared soon.
Back in the classroom, we have been learning about networks in Computing and exploring how devices connect and communicate with one another. In Maths, we have been developing our skills in column addition and subtraction, while in Science we have begun our new topic on states of matter and are looking forward to finding out more about solids, liquids and gases over the coming weeks.

Weekly Update 9.10.26

Hello Cedar Class families,
This week in English, we explored a range of different fantasy worlds to inspire our own setting descriptions. The children gathered exciting ideas and vocabulary, which will help them create their own imaginative settings over the coming weeks.
It may feel a little early, but we thoroughly enjoyed creating our artwork for our Christmas cards this week! The children took great care with their designs and worked incredibly hard to produce some beautiful pieces.
In History, we became Roman engineers and built our own Roman roads using clay and pebbles. Thank you to everyone who contributed pebbles for this activity; they were a huge help and made the experience even more authentic.
In Computing, we compared traditional painting with digital painting and discussed the advantages and challenges of each. Our class was split on which method they found easier and more enjoyable!
We are all very excited about our upcoming trip to Murton Park next week. Please ensure that permission has been given and that you are aware of the details for your child's visit:

Cedar Class Weekly News 01/10/2026

Hello Cedar Class families,
This week, we have been busy completing, editing and publishing our character descriptions. The children worked hard to improve their writing and should be very proud of their finished pieces.
In Science, we used classification keys to help us group and identify different plants. The children enjoyed thinking carefully about plant features and how they can be used to sort living things.
In PSHE, we explored different types of everyday problems and discussed a range of possible solutions, helping us to develop our problem-solving skills. In RE, we learned about Passover and why it is an important celebration for Jewish people.
Our History learning focused on Boudicca and her resistance against the Roman invasion of Britain. The children were fascinated to learn about her life and legacy.

Hello Cedar Class families,
This week, we have continued our Romans learning by exploring the lives of gladiators and using them as inspiration for our character descriptions. The children have worked hard to develop ambitious vocabulary and are preparing for their first published piece of writing of the year.
In Computing, we loved inventing our own devices. The children showed great creativity and took lots of care when designing and presenting their ideas.
The Year 4 children enjoyed another successful swimming session and are already growing in confidence in the water. As previously stated, the groupings of children are set by the leisure centre and are fluid so that they are continually assessed and moved according to their ability shown in the pool each week. We use the Leeds Swim Scheme to ensure that every child has the chance to succeed no matter what their starting points and also have the opportunity to be stretched and develop core swim safety skills where applicable.
In Maths, Year 3 have been ordering and comparing numbers to 1,000, while Year 4 have been ordering and comparing numbers to 10,000. This has helped to strengthen their understanding of place value and number magnitude.
In Reading, the children have been thoroughly enjoying our class novel, Thieves of Ostia, and are always eager to find out what happens next.

This week, we have fully immersed ourselves in our Romans topic and the children have shown great enthusiasm throughout. In English, we created 'triaramas', Roman-themed jigsaws, and gladiators as an exciting introduction to the descriptive writing we will be focusing on next week. We also explored images of gladiators and worked together to create a class word bank. The children thoroughly enjoyed this activity and contributed a fantastic range of imaginative vocabulary and ideas.
In History, we learned about life in Britain before the Roman invasion. This sparked lots of curiosity and excitement, particularly as we look forward to our upcoming trip in a few weeks' time.
In Maths, Year 3 have been exploring number lines to 1,000, while Year 4 have been working with number lines to 10,000, developing their understanding of place value and number sequences.
The children have continued to enjoy our PE unit, Look, Run, Avoid, and have demonstrated excellent teamwork, cooperation, and sportsmanship during lessons.
Year 4 had a very successful first swimming lesson this week. Thank you for ensuring that your child had the correct kit. As a reminder, the coach provided by the local authority departs from school promptly at 9:00am. Please ensure your child arrives by 8:45am every Wednesday morning so that they do not miss their swimming lesson.
