Weekly Update 17.9.21

K Simms (k.simms) on: Willow Tree Class Blog

Happy Friday everyone!

We have had a fantastic week getting stuck into our learning in Willow Tree Class! The children had lots of fun during our maths carousel on Thursday to practice the Place Value skills we have learnt so far…we played board games, represented 3-digit numbers using Base 10 and counters, tested our friends with flashcards and had an exciting game of Place Value Bingo! In addition, we have been getting ready for our school trip to Murton Park on Monday by testing our chronology skills with a timeline that spans 4000 years and learning a little bit about the Viking Gods! We are all very excited to learn lots more on Monday!

We have also:

- focused on our handwriting and made sure to put capital letters at the start of all our sentences.

- discussed the advantages and disadvantages of the Internet and talked about how we can stay safe.

- started our investigations into what makes a good scientist.

- celebrated our Reader of the Week and our Special Mention of the Week.

- had lots of fun starting our PE sessions with Fisical and GPLS!

Homework will be sent home tonight and is due in on Wednesday 22nd September 2021 please.

For maths, we are focusing on the 2x tables. For English, there is a capital letter and full stop investigation activity. This week’s spellings can be found at the front of the homework book on the handwriting sheet.

Have a fabulous weekend and see you all bright and early on Monday morning!

K Simms (k.simms) on: Willow Tree Class Blog

Good afternoon everyone,

Well, what an exciting week this has been! It has been an absolute pleasure meeting each and every one of the children in Willow Tree Class and I am very excited to see our journey as a team as we advance throughout this academic year. The children have been extraordinary at settling into their new classroom and routines and they have been as equally brilliant at beginning their Year 3 level work. We have spent time getting to know each other and finding out fun and interesting facts about each other and have worked together to create our classroom rules and targets to make sure that Willow Tree remains a welcoming, kind and safe place for our children to learn and grow.

Well done Willow Tree Class!

We also...

  • ...chose our new Class Story "Gangsta Granny" by David Walliams.
  • ...practised logging into the computers and logging into Purple Mash ready to start our new ICT topic.
  • ...practised counting in 10s and 100s.
  • ...celebrated our Reader of the Week, Special Mention of the Week and our Table Team of the Week.
  • ...recapped maths facts and key numeracy skills.
  • ...recapped the skills needed for Guided Reading.
  • ...were introduced to Bob Marley and the song "Three Little Birds" during our music lesson!
