Cedar Tree Class - Year 3/4 Class Highlights 2021-22

Leeds City Museum and Art Gallery Trip

Years 3 and 4 had a fantastic day out at Leeds City Museum and Art Gallery! We took part in a mummification workshop as part of our Ancient Egypt topic and met Nesyamun, a 3,000-year-old mummy… before carrying out some sketching at the Art Gallery. We loved learning about all the different types of art! Click below to enlarge a photo.

Art trip to Rawdon Billing

Cedar Tree had a brilliant trip to the picturesque Rawdon Billing! Inspired by 'land artist' Andy Goldsworthy, we collected natural materials, before spelling out the name of our class in Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs. We also carried out some litter-picking along the way.

Photographs of our work will be displayed at Guiseley Theatre from 25th June to 2nd July as part of the ALPT art exhibition: OUT FOR A WALK. Click below to view our gallery.

Ancient Egyptians: archaeological hunt

We kicked off our summer topic on the Ancient Egyptians with an archaeological hunt around the school grounds! The children discovered replicas of eight artefacts – including a canopic jar, a bronze ankh and an ancient coin from the reign of Cleopatra VII. Our ‘history detectives’ carefully isolated the site of each find, before using the artefacts to make inferences about the lives and beliefs of the Ancient Egyptians. We also explored the differences between primary and secondary sources of history.

In July, we’ll be going on a trip to see a 3000-year old mummy named Nesyamun, as part of an Ancient Egyptian workshop at Leeds City Museum.

Year 4 Residential to Ilkley

Year 4 had a BRILLIANT time at our annual residential to Nell Bank in Ilkley! Click here to view our brilliant gallery. The children took part in a range of exciting outdoor activities linked to our science, geography and PSHE curriculum, including...

  • A nature walk at Otley Chevin Forest Park
  • A hike across Ilkley Moor
  • Pond dipping
  • A mini-beast hunt
  • Orienteering
  • Adventure playground
  • A moonlight walk in search of nocturnal creatures (followed by hot chocolate!)
  • A variety of fun team-building games

Many thanks to all the staff at Rufford and Nell Bank for making this happen!

Year 3 Day Trip to Nell Bank

Year 3 had a BRILLIANT day out during our sunny trip to Nell Bank in Ilkley! Click here to view our fantastic gallery! The children took part in a range of exciting outdoor activities, including a nature walk in Middleton Woods, pond dipping, a mini-beast hunt and orienteering. We can't wait to return next year for our annual Year 4 residential!

World Book Day

Cedar Tree Class had a brilliant time dressing up for World Book Day! We had a parade in the hall, took part in a 'book swap' and enjoyed learning about the life and works of Roald Dahl. Don't forget to spend your World Book Day vouchers!

National Storytelling Week

To celebrate National Storytelling Week, Cedar Tree Class have been recommending their favourite books to their classmates... how many have YOU read? We enjoyed taking part in DEAR (Drop Everything And Read) every time the school bell rang out, and also had a brilliant afternoon of entertainment with storyteller and former Emmerdale actress Ursula Holden Gill!

Music lessons with Mr Jennings

Cedar Tree Class have been enjoying our music lessons with our peripatetic teacher, Mr Jennings. Last week we studied composition and notation - using chime bars to compose our own ring tones before performing them to the class.

Academy of Northern Ballet at Rufford Park

We were delighted to host a workshop run by the renowned Academy of Northern Ballet, based in central Leeds. With the accompaniment of a live pianist, the children had lots of fun performing a sequence of ballet moves – including the arabesque and tendu.

Viking trip to Murton Park

Years 3 and 4 had a brilliant day out, travelling back in time to the land of Danelaw at Murton Park near York - where we learnt to live the life of Vikings! The children farmed the land, guarded the village from Anglo-Saxons, ground flour using a millstone, baked biscuits, collected firewood, created their own pottery... and much more besides! We hope you enjoy the pictures below (click to enlarge).

Extreme Reading Summer Challenge

Well done to all the children who took part in the Extreme Reading Summer Challenge! Click below to view some spectacular efforts...

First day back...

Welcome to Cedar Tree Class, it's lovely to have everyone back in school! The children have settled well into the classroom routines and it is very pleasing to see new friendships forming already. We're looking forward to a fantastic year of learning!
