Ash Tree Home Learning - 18.5.20

Hi Ash Tree!

I hope you are all ok and staying safe. It has been really nice to hear from some of you this week during my phone calls to your parents, like some of you, I am also really keen to go back to school now! It can be really hard to motivate yourself to work from home but just try your best for your grown ups! Even things like reading a few chapters of a book each will really help you once we return school. Speaking of books, if you have any great book recommendations why not share them with everyone on the class blog?

You can find the answers to last week's basic skills tests here:

Basic Skills 1 Summer 1 Wk 4 - Answers

Basic Skills 2 Summer 1 Wk 4 - Answers

Basic Skills 3 Summer 1 Wk 4 - Answers

Did any of you manage to beat your score from last week?

Here is your timetable for this week (Summer 1 Week 5):

You can download your White Rose maths resources for the week here:

Y5 White Rose Worksheets - Summer 1 Wk 5

Y5 White Rose Answers - Summer 1 Wk 5

Y6 White Rose Worksheets - Summer 1 Wk 5

Y6 White Rose Answers - Summer 1 Wk 5

Instead of a basic skills challenge this week, we have set an arithmetic challenge instead. These practise arithmetic tests are designed to test your understanding of the basic methods you need to solve more complex maths problems. If you find you are struggling with one particular style of question e.g. percentages you could do some extra practise on this in your daily maths warm up. Year 5 if you would like a challenge you could have a go at the Year 6 test too in preparation for September!

Your resources for the "What Time Is It?" science lessons can be found here

Something else you might be interested in is The Great Science Share for Schools. This week's theme links nicely to our Space topic as it is "Celebrating 200 Years of the Royal Astronomical Society". You can find more information in the word document linked but it is a great opportunity for scientific thinking and experimenting - you can then register on their website and share your questions and findings on the Rufford Park science page.

Finally, if you are in Year 6 and haven't already ordered your leavers' hoodie, you can do this from the class homepage. You must also ask an adult to contact the school office via either email or telephone to give permission for your name to be printed on the back before Friday 22nd May.

Stay safe and hopefully I will see some of you soon!

Miss Bairstow
