HOME LEARNING

Week commencing 02.04.20

Dear children, parents and carers,

Thank you so much for all your support in the first few weeks of working at home. I hope you're keeping well and finding plenty to keep you occupied! I am missing all of you but am glad to see some smiling faces on Thursdays when I'm in school. Are you behaving as well as you do in school? I hope so, as I'm sure your parents and carers are working hard from home too and need everybody to do their bit!

It’s nearly time for the Easter holidays, which means you’ll be coming to the end of your current home learning activities – I have no doubt you’ve all been working hard! There is no specific homework for the 2-week Easter break, but here are some ideas for those of you keen to keep busy…

  • Set yourself a Mathletics Challenge (How many new gold bars can you earn? Can you beat your high scores on Levels 1, 2 and 3 of Live Races? How far can you progress on the Multiverse game? *Click here for a Parents’ Guide to Mathletics*)
  • Achieve all 420 levels on Garage mode of TT Rockstars.
  • EXTREME READING CHALLENGE: Can you read for at least 10 minutes every day of the holidays?
  • Can you spot 30 different species of living creatures over the next 2 weeks and write them down? (Don’t forget to include pets, insects and different types of bird!)
  • Keep a daily diary – include lots of detail and describe your emotions (this could become a primary source of history for future historians or Rufford Park students who will want to learn about the Corona virus!).
  • Draw or paint a beautiful rainbow… then display it in your window to show your support for the hospital workers.
  • How many songs can you sing from Charanga in two weeks?
  • Create a nature collage (www.bbc.co.uk/bitesize/clips/zh4wmp3)
  • Try some new PE ideas here: weareteachers.com/virtual-pe-classes/
  • RE challenge: Find out about the Easter story and display your findings in a creative way (poem, dance, poster etc).
  • Find a new way to relax - recharge your batteries!

Well done, take care and keep washing those hands!

Mrs Cahill

Keeping Safe
It is really important you all continue to keep yourselves safe.  As well as following the government guidelines, you need to remember all the things we teach you in school about keeping safe.  You can find information about keeping safe under the 'children' tab on our website.  In school we regularly talk to you about what you should do if you feel worried or upset.  It is important you talk to a trusted adult; remember you need to speak up and stay safe Miss Tidey, Mr Cooke and Mrs Moss (our Designated Safeguarding Leads) are still available and can be contacted at school.  If you are unable to talk to a trusted adult at school or at home about a worry you have, then you can speak to someone at ChildLine.  Please click on the following link and spend a few minutes reminding yourself of who you can talk to: https://www.ruffordparkprimary.org.uk/children/keeping-safe.  On this page you will also find information on how you can get help if you are worried about anything you see online.

As you are currently learning from home and could well be spending more time online, it is important you also keep yourself safe on the internet.  Please read (or ask an adult to read to you) our E-Safety Rules; you need to remember and follow these when using the internet at home.   Click on this link to view our E-Safety Rules: https://www.ruffordparkprimary.org.uk/children/internet-safety-information-for-children

We have also provided parents with information about how to keep children safe online.  Please click on the following link for advice on how to support your child to use the internet safely, responsibly and positively: https://www.ruffordparkprimary.org.uk/children/internet-safety-information-for-parents.  On this page there are also links to other websites and resources.
