Happy New Year to you All and I hope you had a wonderful Christmas!
It has been lovely to welcome the children back. They have all come back with a positive attitude and smiles on their faces. I am sure they have all grown lots too!
In maths this week we have been recapping on subtraction and introducing subtracting a 2 digit number from a 2 digit number where there is crossing of the tens. The children have been using practical equipment including place value charts to help them with this. We have been learning to 'exchange' tens for ones. This is the same concept they will use in Key Stage 2 when solving problems using column methods.
Next week we will be moving on to our unit on Multiplication and Division. Your help working on counting in 2's. 5's and 10's with your children would be much appreciated.
In English we are using the story of Cinderella to support our writing. The children have been using some key vocabulary from the story to write sentences remembering to include our Year 2 MUST DO's. We have also started to use our 'Purple Pens' for editing and improving our work. This is an important skill that the children need to learn.
Our D.T. is also linked to our story of Cinderella. The children will be learning about moving parts and creating their own Cinderella Story Board with moving parts. This week they have been looking at some examples of moving parts in a variety of books.
